Ongpin's Finest

Since my camera was not in good condition the time that my Hubby and I visited DongBei, i made sure i'll go back to this place and so i can share it too,  to all those Foodie Addicts around the globe :D. This time it's Wheng my college bestfriend and her daugther Gabe whose with me during the second visit. We were busy playing games @ FB, when we talked about our ONGPIN visit's before, I was craving for FRIED SIOPAO that time while Wheng craves for her GOLD finds hahahahah, She was indeed into collecting jewelries. Until we agreed to  visit Ongpin and explore the magical world of GOOD FOOD, best jewelry finds and Authentic and Symbolic Ongpin offers .

yeah baby... see the smoke? that's mine :D

the working station

We left at 5 in the afternoon, we decided to leave the house late because, it was too hot outside. Traffic wise its tolerable since most of the students are on vacation already. We were at Ongpin around 6pm i guess...First  we headed to Dong Bei, a small kutchay dumpling store that serves fresh dumplings cooked on the spot... (cooked as you oder) we had it as takeout since we both love to have rice for dinner. We also bought fried siopao that Gabe munched while we were waiting for the dumplings. (mommy im hungry).

Next stop we headed to Salazar St., were Roast Meals are everywhere.....We choose WaiYing Fastfood among the roast chains along the street and had the most sumptuous meal ever.

Mom & Daugther Tandem outside Waiying

After the sumptuous meal we walked along Salazar and enjoyed its somewhat Hong Kong style ambiance. Until we passed by Masuki, one of old noodle house in Ongpin that offers real authentic noodles soup.  And since we were in the mood for nonstop eating and hopping we enter the noodle house w/out digesting all the fats we have from the duck and the chicken @ Waiying.  We ordered 1 order of their famous Noodle ( its huge and can serve even upto 3 people).

I learned about Masuki, when it was featured in MYX (music channel), if I'm not mistaken and this local band Kamikazee tour and explore the streets of Escolta & Ongpin, were they dine and enjoyed Masuki's Noodle, that was far 2-3yrs. ago. I remember i kept on asking Wheng to go with me and try their noodles, but to no avail we would always reset the noodle tasting party :D

Salazar Street @ night

HUGE Menu Card from Masuki
(u can't go wrong with this BIG Menu Card)

The Soup is clear and the noodle is freshly made ( i guess they have this little space upstairs where they knead and trimmed the noodles? typical Chinese resto does it) . It is served with 2 kinds of sauce that taste's like asado. Wheng say's it's good, for me it's just a so so... maybe because I'm full with our roast dinner that's why i wasn't able to enjoy it, (ill comeback and taste this authentic noodles again when my husband arrives and that's a promise hihihi:D).

For our last stop we dropped by to Baker's to have some goodies for our sweet endings! Wheng bought Leche Flan  (custard cake) for Pasalubong.

All in all the unplanned Ongpin Tour aka Lakwatsa is a HIT... we ate what we wanted and we enjoy the company of each other, plus with the little one (Gabe).

Cheers!

Chicken Teriyaki with Mushroom and Packchoy

You will Need:

1/2 kl. Chicken Thigh (removed bones)
1/2 Cup Mirin (Japanese Cooking Wine)
5 Tablespoon Kikkoman Sauce (or any Fermented Dark Soy Sauce)
1 small can of Button Mushroom
1 clove Garlic chopped
1 whole Ginger chopped
Bunch of Pakchoy (Bakchoy)

Let's Partee:

  • Marinate Chicken thigh for 5-10mins with kikkoman, mirin, garlic and ginger.
  • On a non-stick Grill Pan, cook chicken , turning both sides to even out the color (some might burn if not monitored since all meats marinated with soy sauce tend to burn fast). Brush Marinade to Chicken if its dry.
  • When cooked put mushrooms on the grill pan and lower the heat, coat the mushroom with chicken drippings (it does add a wonderful taste to the dish).
  • Boil Water and add Pakchoy, wait until its half-cooked then set aside.
  • Arranged Chicken Teriyaki on a Platter, Put pakchoy on the side and mushroom on top of the Chicken.
  • On the same pan add few drops of Mirin and kikkoman, wait until it boils and pour the sauce over the Chicken and Pak Choy.

Serves 3-4 Hungry Pax....

Who said you cannot enjoy Japanese Foodie @
HOME??? Not anymore Hanie ..... :D

weekend with Belen

Weekends will never be the same without hangging out with a Kumare (Girlfriend), We normally listen mass together and share dinner together too, one of the recent dinner we had together was in Karate Kid.

I never get tired of eating Japanese food, its something i really crave on a weekly basis, some are sufficed but some are not since Japanese food as we all know are more expensive than the usual food we ate.But not this time, Belen, my ninang hahahahah and my kumare was the one who introduced me to this Japanese restaurant. She said eating japanese shouldn't be always expensive and now i agree.
